This year for the Wonderful Wedding Show we wanted to create a booth that was inspiring, on trend, cohesive and interactive.
We worked with a colour palette of white and gold, two colours that many of our clients have asked for this year. Planned Perfectly backdroped our booth in gold linen adding in strips of white fabric for extra drama. The tables were dressed in a textured white linen which contrasted nicely against the gold chivari chairs.
For the flowers we wanted something over the top but still classic and traditional. Phalaenopsis orchids worked perfectly for this look, nestled into a base of ivory and very soft pink roses. To incorporate gold McDiarmid Flowers appliquéd the vase with gold fabric (a trick she learnt working with Preston Bailey’s team last spring!). To add an interactive component McDiarmid Flowers designed Two hand held bouquets for future brides to pick up and hold.
One of my favourite parts of our booth were the hanging chandeliers we borrowed from our friends The Christmas Light Guys. They added the perfect amount of elegance and sparkle… and were worth all the effort to hang!

Here are our top 8 points for surviving a wedding show (as seen in It’s Love Magazine):
1) Take Photos
There are lots of great ideas and designs at wedding shows—all the vendors are going out of their way to show off their style and impress you. This makes the show the perfect opportunity to get inspired, and find great ideas and vendors to connect with! If you see something that you would love for your wedding day, take photos and make a note which vendor created it. Later, bring these images to your consultations with florists, linen and decor companies, and stationery designers to make sure everyone is envisioning the same concepts.
2) Bring a Buddy
To help make decisions and avoid getting overwhelmed, bring someone along to the show whose opinions you value but won’t be pushy, like your fiancé, mother, future mother-in-law, bridesmaid, sibling, or friend! To avoid getting overwhelmed choose carefully who you bring—the more people, the more opinions.
3) Take Notes and Follow Up
Bring a notebook to jot down names of companies you are interested in working with. There is a good chance you will meet multiples of the same types of vendors and after the wedding show is over, you will wont to be able to remember which florist you loved and which you disliked. Chances are, you will collect many business cards and handouts, and this is where wedding showcases can quickly get confusing. Having a notebook on hand is also helpful for scheduling appointments. If you aren’t able to book a meeting on the spot, make sure you get the vendor’s contact info and follow up with them the week after the show—they will be happy to meet with you!
4) Ask Questions
When you find a vendor you like, make sure you ask them any questions you might have. Start off by making sure they are available for your date. The best vendors always book up fast! If there is a specific product you want, see if they have it available or if they can bring it in.
5) Skip the Booths You’re Not Interested In
With plenty of different vendor categories displaying their product, there may be vendors that you may have already booked. There is no need to go visit their competition if you are satisfied with who you have hired. There will also be vendors for items you have decided not to go with. Don’t second guess the choices you have already made—you probably had a good reason in the first place.
6) Dress to Impress
You’ll hear a lot of the same advice—wear comfortable shoes! It’s true there will be a lot of walking and you will be on your feet all day, but don’t forget that you are also making a first impression on the vendors you want to book. Dress business casual and vendors will want to work with you to help plan your big day!
7) Prepare Labels
There are lots of great contests and draws set up by wedding show exhibitors. To save yourself time and energy, prepare sticky labels with your contact info before attending. They are inexpensive to pick up at an office supply store, and easy to print off at home. Make sure to include your first and last name, your fiancé’s first and last name, phone number, and email address.
8) Don’t Be Afraid to Interact
Many brides are anxious to talk or interact with vendors at wedding shows, thinking they will try to sell you on something that you don’t want. If you go in with this attitude, you’re going to miss out. While we encourage you to be selective about who you chat with, don’t be afraid to connect with a vendor. A wedding planner you talk to might give you an answer to a planning obstacle you’ve had, a photographer might become your must-have vendor to hire, or a baker might give you a great idea to save some money. These people are pros for a reason, and they want to connect with you in order to find out if they will be the right fit for you. Don’t be the girl who hangs back and misses out!
